“Bands with managers are going places
Bands with messy hair and smooth white faces”
This post is likely going to read mostly like a mass PR-type email because I did the ol’ copy+paste from a mass PR-type email. I apologize. I swear I am human! Though today, I am a tired human. A tired human with a new record deal and label - a fortunate human.
I am *thrilled* to announce that I have signed to the record label Thrill Jockey! As a longtime fan of the label and the work released through it, this is a dream-come-true type of scenario for me. The future of our work together includes a brand new full length LP in 2024, many tours, one-off merchandise, collaborations, and more. I really could not be more excited for working together and what the future holds.
In addition to this signing announcement, I am here to remind you about some upcoming performances I have in the United States. I’ll be performing music from the soon-to-be Thrill Jockey record as well as some exclusive live material. I really hope you can come to some of these performances.
Before I go on, I want to take a little time and space here to recognize the people who have been helping me lately with all things “music business” related. Dawood, my new manager, is an angel and a true guiding light in my life right now. Yes, I am an artist with a manager (sorry Bazan). I want to thank Christina Vantzou, Steve Knutson, Felicia and Bart at Shelter Press, and Meg Duffy for being there in my times of “what the fuck do I do” and “please listen to this”. You are all treasures and mega chillers in this void, burning world.

From the label:
Thrill Jockey is excited to announce the signing of artist and musician claire rousay. The singular LA-based artist, known for challenging conventions in experimental and ambient music forms, is planning to release her Thrill Jockey debut in early 2024. A meditation on loneliness, her new album is her most audacious work yet, synthesizing disparate and unexpected influences from throughout rousay's long and varied career as a performer.
rousay will be touring throughout the US Midwest this fall, performing alongside William Basinski, in collaboration with NYC duo LEYA, and including sets at FEaST and Columbia Experimental Festivals. rousay plans to tour extensively in 2024, including an already announced set at Big Ears Festival in Knoxville, TN and a premiere of her composition crying too with the Wild Up ensemble at Darkness Sounding Festival.

Last little thing - This post is chaotic and does not address everything I feel like I want to address right now. This post is also not well structured and definitely not well written. I am going to try and follow up later this week with a more personal and long form letter to you all to talk about all the things weighing on my mind and on my heart (lol).
Congratulations, Claire! Seeing that you’re going to be in Oberlin---if you have time in town, there’s a record store in town called Hanson’s which has a lot of experimental, ambient and electronic music--some going way back. If you haven’t been there yet, the Allen Art Museum is pretty fantastic, with both older and contemporary art. I think you’ll feel very welcome there. Good luck and thank you for the inventive, challenging work.
Congrats! Looking forward to listening to the new music!
