end of 2023 beginning of something else
Hello everyone,
It is December 30th and I am coming to you from my home in Los Angeles. I feel short on sleep this morning even after last night’s relatively full, ambien-induced slumber. The weather here is currently “nice” - the stereotypical sunny, not too hot not too cold, “perfect” weather that everyone says LA has that it really does not have a lot of the time. I wanted to use this letter as a way to reflect on the last 12 months and share some the moments from my 2023 experience. I’m not going to do that though. I originally planned on doing the typical long form, chronological list of my annual (essentially) accomplishments but I don’t feel like working that hard today. Over the next 12 months I am going to be working very hard, even though I mostly just want to disappear. Not today though. No work or disappearing.
The world is sad and tired and anyone feeling that way too, well, your feelings are valid, lol. But actually too, minus the “lol”. I am also very sad and tired - which is another reason I am not going all in on this 2023 recap / boasting session.
I mostly just want to say thank you to everyone who has supported me this year. Thanks to everyone who has played a show with me, released my music, listened to my music, attended a show, booked the show, bought merchandise, told someone about what I do, listened to me rant online, listened to me rant irl, criticized my music, criticized my behavior, subscribed to the Bandcamp, played music with me, helped me record or mix or master music, took photos of me playing a show or not playing a show (laptop music baybee), liked or shared anything of mine on social media, and really anything else that involves connecting me, claire rousay and you/someone else/the void.
I have my list of INs and OUTs for 2024 for you below. Feel free to comment and let me know yours. I am always looking to learn and/or copy people.
